Clinical EFT Tapping

Emotional Freedom Techniques- Also known as EFT or Tapping. EFT has evolved from Thought Field Therapy (TFT) which began in the 1970’s.  In the 1990’s EFT was born. Since then, EFT has been heavily researched across the world and there are many exciting findings for the EFT and energy psychology field. To date there are more that 300+ published journal papers in the field.

Today, EFT is often now referred to as ‘psychological acupressure’ and commonly used as a self-applied stress reduction technique.  It is a combination of:

  • Exposure therapy - focusing on a negative event or thought/feeling/sensation

  • Cognitive therapy - what are the thoughts about that now?

  • Somatic component - tapping on acupressure points and asking the body where the feeling, sensation is held in the body and what is feels like now?

EFT involves tapping with two fingers on acupressure points on the face and upper body while focussing on a troubling physical or emotional issue and repeating words simultaneously. EFT has been used successfully with a range of conditions including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety, phobias, obsessive compulsive disorder, addictions, pain management, immune response, sporting performance, and physical and mental functioning.
